NBA Player Sued After Car Accident Leaves Victim with Serious Injuries

A 21-year-old man, Alekxei Pino, has filed a lawsuit against NBA player Haywood Highsmith, alleging that Highsmith’s reckless driving caused a car accident resulting in Pino losing his leg. The incident occurred on February 6 in Miami, where Pino was assisting a stranded motorist when Highsmith’s vehicle collided with him at a high speed.

According to Pino’s lawsuit, Highsmith was driving above the legal speed limit, leading to the severe collision and above-the-knee amputation of Pino’s leg. Pino sustained other significant injuries and is currently undergoing extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages, estimated to exceed $50,000, to cover Pino’s medical expenses, rehabilitation, and other related costs. Additionally, Pino’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to further support his recovery.

Despite police findings indicating that drugs and alcohol were not involved in the accident, Highsmith was cited for careless driving, with authorities suggesting that distraction may have contributed to the crash.
