Tragic Trucking Collision Claims 15 Lives on Canadian Highway

The bus was en route to a casino near Carberry, traveling south on Highway 5, while the semitrailer was heading east on Highway 1.
The collision occurred at the intersection of the two highways, north of Carberry, approximately 170 kilometers (105 miles) west of Winnipeg. Lasson stated, “Immediately it became apparent that this was a mass casualty situation.”
According to Lasson, there were 25 people on the bus, including the driver, ranging in age from 58 to 88. Among the victims, 13 were female and two were male. Alongside the 15 fatalities, ten others were transported to a hospital, including the drivers of both vehicles.
On Friday evening, the driver of the semi-truck was released from the hospital and is recovering well, as reported by Lasson. However, the bus driver remains in the hospital undergoing treatment.
Manitoba’s legislative building lowered flags to mourn the tragic incident, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his condolences through a statement on Twitter.
The CEO of Day & Ross, the shipping company responsible for operating the semitrailer, William Doherty, has pledged full cooperation with the ongoing investigation. He acknowledged that the company currently has limited details from the scene of the accident.
