Big Rig Causes 19 Vehicle Accident and 17 Injured

On June 26, 2012 at 10:09 a.m.an accident near the Escondido Canyon Road exit caused a 19-vehicle pileup on the 15 Freeway left 17 people injured and closed the main roadway to Antelope Valley.

The L.A. County Fire Department said two of the 17 victims were critically injured in the automobile accident near the Escondido Canyon Road exit. Their conditions were not immediately available.

Officers were slowing traffic on the freeway at about 9:40 a.m.to clear several pipes when a big rig came around the corner, was unable to stop in time and started the major chain-reaction collision.

Some of the vehicles ended on top of others during the crash, which caused a miles-long backup on the freeway. Seven ambulances and about 50 firefighters had responded to the scene.
