Two Harley Davidson Motorcycles Collide

On May 5, 2012, the California Highway Patrol reports Kevin O’Sullivan, 53, of Marysville, was driving his 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on South Avenue with a group of other motorcyclists on their way to Oroville.

At 5:30 p.m., Vaughn Nixon Jr., 65, of Oroville, drove his 1996 Harley Davidson and slowed when a vehicle in front of the group slowed to make a left turn onto Kirkwood Road. O’Sullivan, who was traveling behind Nixon was unable to slow in time and struck the left rear side of Nixon’s Harley as he swerved to avoid a collision, the CHP said.

The impact caused O’Sullivan to be thrown off his bike onto the pavement, landing on the railroad tracks, while Nixon was knocked to the pavement as his motorcycle traveled through the South Avenue and Kirkwood Road intersection before coming to rest in a ditch.

CHP reports O’Sullivan was suffering from a broken neck and was transported by medical helicopter to Enloe Medical Center in Chico for treatment. He was listed in fair condition on Tuesday afternoon.

Nixon, who was suffering from cuts to his hands and arms, refused medical care at the scene.
