A chilling incident unfolded early Saturday morning when a Nissan Versa was deliberately driven into a crowd outside the Vermont Hollywood nightclub on Santa Monica Boulevard, injuring at least 30 people, with seven in critical condition and six more seriously hurt. The driver, identified as 29-year-old Fernando Ramirez, had reportedly been removed from the venue for disruptive and intoxicated behavior just minutes prior.
According to authorities, Ramirez mounted the sidewalk roughly eight minutes after being ejected and crashed into nightclub patrons, valet staff, and taco-stand workers. Bystanders, fearing further harm, dragged him from the vehicle and assaulted him. An unidentified individual then shot Ramirez—paramedics found him with a gunshot wound when they arrived.
Hundreds of first responders—including 124 firefighters and multiple LAPD units—swarmed the scene to assist victims and secure the area. Mayor Karen Bass described the event as a “heartbreaking tragedy,” and an extensive investigation is underway to determine motive and timeline.
