The tragedy unfolded in the early hours of Saturday when a Tesla, driven by 22-year-old Moheb Reda Samuel, crashed into a curb at a speed exceeding 100 mph on East Foothill Boulevard. The impact caused the vehicle to careen into the air, striking a utility pole and an unoccupied building.
Samuel, along with his passengers, tragically lost their lives in the crash. Among the victims were Stephan Michael “Mike” Pfeiffer, a 20-year-old from Pasadena, and Esrom Fessemaye, a man in his 20s. Three other passengers, including Samuel’s sister Emily, sustained serious injuries and are currently recovering in the hospital.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, although preliminary findings suggest that the vehicle did not malfunction. Authorities are awaiting toxicology reports to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
